If there is one thing we can all agree on, its that music has defined us in one way or another. From a wedding song, music listening during a sad period in your life, a song that was a huge hit when you graduated, there has been a song or album for every occasion.
So I sat down and had a thought, let’s pick 10 albums that I listened to during the important times in my life.
Now I’m a child of the 80’s, who was raised on 60’s and 70’s music growing up in the 90’s.
I don’t think ABBA, Duran Duran or NSYNC will make this list.
Lets begin the task in no particular order… maybe.

Queen Greatest Hits
One of the greatest rock bands of all band, who doesn’t like belting out “Bohemian Rhapsody in the shower. A favourite of mine that doesn’t get old.
Jack Johnson – On and On
Going though teenage years listening to the likes Ben Harper and Jack Johnson brings back memories. One of my favourite concerts was watching these two play in the Brisbane Riverstage. Ben Stiller in the “Taylor” film clip always brings a smile.
Korn – Follow the Leader
The late 90’s started a new era in hard rock/metal with bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park streaming into pop culture. However, it was this album that had a little more of an aggressive edge and a little more “non conformist” as the others.
Nirvana MTV
There is no doubt that Nirvana are one of the greatest bands of the 90’s. The grunge scene they helped kick off in Seattle lead to a host of other bands rising to popularity such as Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.
This album showed what talent they had, not to mention a great set-list.
Pearl Jam – 10
Ok, this one is probably my favourite. Another band from the Seattle grunge underground, this album has hits like “Alive” and “Black” but also has hidden gems like “Porch” and “Garden”
Beatles – Abbey Rd
An absolute classic. This album plays out like a continuous song on the back half. “Come Together” and “Here comes the Sun” are my two favourite, but you can play this the whole way through very easily. The Album cover also raises a few questions about Paul McCartney’s death as well.
Dr Dre – 2001
I had several friends who were into this genre, and I got totally caught up in it. Eminem’s album “Marshall Mathers LP” was also a very influential album for me. But this album, with guest appearances and great beats makes it one of my all time greats.
Killers – Hot Fuss
Even though the songs on this album got butchered in the radio waves, serious overkill, it remains a very well written album with catchy riffs and easy to sing lyrics. I still know every word.
Neil Young – Greatest Hits
I suppose this album got in here as Neil Young was Pearl Jam’s biggest influence on and off the stage. Young’s 10 minute guitar solos are not for everyone, but his lyrics are amazing and really attempt to make a point.
Moby – Play
By far the most relaxing album on my list, “Play” is a mix of electro and pop. A heavily sampled album, this is my bedtime listening every night.
