An island known for its beautiful clear water and relaxed lifestyle, New Caledonia is the idyllic home of Le Meridien Noumea. With the reef creating a myriad of blues around the property and the dozens of kite-surfers entertaining you with a multi-coloured sunset, you have found a new home in New Caledonia.
Where is Le Meridien Noumea New Caledonia located
New Caledonia is a remote pacific island nation, two and a half hours from the east coast of Australia. Once you land into the Noumea International airport, it will take approximately one hour to reach the south of the island, the location of the Le Meridien resort.
The best way to get to Le Meridien Noumea New Caledonia is by taking a direct flight from Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. When you arrive at the airport, there is no Uber/Careem so you will have to take a private transfer/taxi or bus shuttle. We recommend the bus shuttle as it will take you directly to your hotel and is significantly cheaper than the other options. We got down to the Le Meridien Noumea for approximately 30$USD one way per person with the Arc En Ciel transfer services, booked by our hotel. If you want more luxurious and private transfers, you can request the hotel at your booking and the team will take care of you. There is a helipad at the hotel so that option is also available if you want such an option!
Facilities at Le Meridien Noumea New Caledonia
As one of the most coveted resorts on the island, Le Meridien has plenty of facilities to keep anyone busy. The 24-hour Gym has plenty of fitness equipment and more space than is required. There are rarely people in there so you can get workouts done in peace. However, there is very little in regards to weight, they only have light weights so plan accordingly for your workouts if you are serious about your training.
The spa facilities, Deep Nature, is a popular brand in France. You can buy an unlimited use of the facilities package for 30 dollars a day. It was one of our favourite activities at Le Meridien Noumea as the jacuzzis and sauna are very good. There is a Hamman bath, massage facilities, cold plunge pool, sauna, steam room, an indoor jacuzzi and also a smaller outdoor jacuzzi.
Down by the beach you have unlimited access to the non-motorised equipment. This includes the paddleboards, kayaks and snorkelling equipment. The water around the property is tidal so there are incredible clear pools of water which are great to swim and paddle around. Since it is a pacific island, beware of the stiff breeze you may face.
The Pool is central to the whole resort. There are dozens of deck chairs sprinkled around the pool and it is a great place to set up for the day. The beach is literally 15 meters walk from the beach so you will have a choice of both.
Rooms at Le Meridien Noumea New Caledonia
We stayed in two different rooms during our stay. The first room we stayed in is the Resort Suite Room. This room, on the 5th (the top) floor, had a large balcony that overlooked the water and the hotel resort. The configuration itself was a double room with its own living area, massive walk-in wardrobe and a fully rotating TV. However, the centrepiece of the room was definitely the massive bathtub, which resembled the size of a double mattress!
We also stayed in the Diplomatic Suite Room, located on the 4th floor. This room was very similar sized room to the Resort suite but in a completely different setup. The bathroom and smaller bathtub were located in their separate room towards the back. The balcony was still facing the ocean but was smaller than the Resort suite. The Diplomatic suite has a big table for dining and kitchen area which is more friendly to host guests if you are hosting a wedding with multiple other people you know staying in the hotel that you want to invite over.
For honeymoons and weddings, would definitely recommend booking the Resort Suite in advance!
Dining at Le Meridien Noumea New Caledonia
Breakfast
Breakfast is simple but has all the essentials you need which are the salad bar, cheese bar, cereal bar, eggs bar and more consistent meals if you are that type of eater in the morning. Like all Le Meridien hotels we have stayed at, there are welcome detox juices at your arrival to the breakfast. For the first time, we encountered a different coffee service which is self-serve, with coffee machines is located at the buffet and you can make your own, plus take one away too as they leave takeaway cups at your disposition. As New Caledonia is a French territory, you can be assured that there is a quality range of cheeses and bread to really fill you up as well.
Seafood buffet
There is a Seafood buffet dinner from Thursdays to Saturdays. It was certainly an event be behold. With a massive range of the freshest local seafood, oysters, snails, mussels, prawns, sashimi and sushi, this is a seafood lovers paradise. We went back up to the buffet over and over again as we picked our way through seafood salads and local fish. The sauces with the mussels and the chocolate mousse were particular favourites. An approximate 80$US per person well-spent for such a feast you must try once.
Another dining experience we enjoyed was the Latitude 22 bar, located next to the reception and the lobby. We arrived late for a tapas and cocktail evening. They have a massive range of cocktails they can make and they allocate tapas that best fit the drink. Make sure you pass by for a hangout on Friday or Saturdays to enjoy the live music. Le Meridien hosts live music concerts every week with different local talents which is an amazing entertainment initiative for guests.
You can also enjoy cocktails and finger food at the poolside bar, which also looks at the beach. Make sure you get early for the sunset, as it will be full and maybe even the best sunset you have ever seen.
Our experience at Le Meridien Noumea New Caledonia
Highly touted as the premier location in Noumea, we were certainly not disappointed, from the welcome greetings coming into the giant lobby, the views from the Latitude 22 bar, or the perfect sunsets that hung in the sky for what seemed like hours, as the kitesurfers showed off into the evening. We were certainly left impressed with the number of activities to do and the warm and hospitable staff who made our stay legendary.
One of the nice touches of the resort is the free coffees daily vouchers that come with the room. Upon handing your voucher, you can pick up a coffee to go or just drink it there, perfect for the busy traveller. In fact, you get many complimentary perks such as free entrance tickets to the Tjibaou Cultural Center in Noumea. There are many things you can do here that are complementary and that includes the water activities such as snorkel gear, paddle, kayak, fun games for all like foosball, pool table, table tennis, board games, giant chess game, bikes, tennis court access, aquagym classes and pilates!
