COMO Alpina Dolomites: Family Alpine Wellness Alpe di Siusi

When it comes to alpine luxury, few places capture the spirit of the mountains quite like COMO Alpina Dolomites. Perched high on the Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest high-altitude alpine plateau, this property isn’t just a hotel; it’s a sanctuary of wood, stone, and glass designed to bring the outside in.

As a family of three traveling with our one-year-old boy, we were looking for that rare blend of high-end wellness and genuine family hospitality. We found it here. Whether you are here for the world-class skiing or the summer hiking trails, the resort offers a masterclass in how to handle “adventure parents” and their spirited little ones. We enjoyed a hosted experience with the team, and this is how it went.

Location of COMO Alpina Dolomites

Situated in the heart of the Val Gardena, COMO Alpina Dolomites enjoys a “ski-in, ski-out” position that is virtually unbeatable. The hotel is located on the Alpe di Siusi, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its dramatic peaks and rolling meadows. The location is perfect for families because the plateau is relatively flat compared to other Alpine regions, making it much easier to navigate with a stroller or a toddler finding his feet. Access is usually via a cable car from Siusi, which immediately sets the tone for an exclusive, “above the clouds” experience. So as you drive up, as it is a UNESCO heritage site, they only allow hotel guests up the mountain. This makes it easy to move around without worrying about traffic. The view from the hotel looks right the the slopes so you cannt get a better spot then this.

Rooms at COMO Alpina Dolomites

One of the biggest hurdles when traveling as a trio is finding a room that doesn’t feel cramped once the suitcases are open. The rooms at COMO Alpina Dolomites are incredibly spacious, offering more than enough floor space for all three of us, our gear, and the inevitable mountain of baby supplies. The design is modern alpine—clean lines and warm textures. We can fit all our things and the baby cot with room to move. The full minibar is available and is great for small snacks or munching while enjoying the view. The highlight, however, is the balcony. Stepping out each morning to a special mountain view is breathtaking. We could check the conditions on the slopes before we even left the room, watching the first light hit the peaks while our son pointed excitedly at the distant cable cars.

Food at COMO Alpina Dolomites

The culinary journey here strikes a perfect balance between sophisticated Italian flavors and hearty mountain fare. A standout for us is the Aperitivo every afternoon from 3:00 PM. It became our ritual to head down for fresh sandwiches and expertly crafted cocktails.

In the evenings, the atmosphere shifts beautifully. The lobby comes alive with live music and a crackling fireplace, creating a cozy hub to recount the day’s adventures. Despite being a luxury setting, the staff are incredibly welcoming of young kids. Even for a little boy who can be a “little terror” at times, the team remains patient, kind, and proactive, ensuring the dining experience is stress-free for parents.

Facilities at COMO Alpina Dolomites

The architecture of the resort ensures that the mountains are always the star of the show. The reception area is one of our favorite spots to hang out; it features a high-end telescope aimed straight at the jagged peaks. With plush couches and an abundance of natural light, it is the perfect place to decompress after a tough day on the trails or slopes. The layout is intuitive, and even with a one-year-old in tow, moving between the common areas and the private wings feels effortless and private.

Health and Wellness at COMO Alpina Dolomites

Health and wellness are the core pillars of the COMO Shambhala philosophy, and the facilities here are as good as any we have experienced globally. The wellness area is an expansive haven of recovery. It features several saunas, steam rooms, and dedicated relaxation areas where silence and serenity reign. For the brave, the ice baths provide the ultimate post-ski recovery. There is also a stunning indoor/outdoor pool that allows you to swim while surrounded by snow-dusted trees—an experience our son found absolutely mesmerizing.\

What is Around COMO Alpina Dolomites

You are positioned in the center of an outdoor playground. In winter, you have direct access to the Dolomiti Superski circuit. In summer, the area transforms into a hiking and mountain biking paradise. There are several mountain huts (rifugios) within a short walking distance that serve incredible local cheeses and polenta. For families, the nearby meadows are perfect for a gentle wander, and the absence of heavy car traffic on the plateau makes it feel exceptionally safe and peaceful.

Our Personal Overall Experience of COMO Alpina Dolomites

COMO Alpina Dolomites manages to feel grand yet intimate. It is rare to find a property that takes wellness and high-end design so seriously while still being a place where a one-year-old feels at home. The staff are the true heroes here—their ability to pivot from silver service to entertaining a toddler is what makes the Adventurefaktory team keep coming back to properties like this. It’s an evergreen destination that delivers whether the peaks are green or white.

Promotions at COMO Alpina Dolomites

The hotel often runs seasonal “Stay and Play” packages or wellness-focused retreats that include spa credits. We recommend checking the official website for “Early Bird” Dolomites specials, especially for the shoulder seasons in June or September when the weather is crisp and the crowds are thinner.

❓ COMO Alpina Dolomites: Frequently Asked Questions
Is the hotel suitable for toddlers and babies?
Yes! Despite its sophisticated atmosphere, the hotel is very family-friendly. They provide cots, high chairs, and the staff are famously patient with young children. The Alpe di Siusi plateau is also much flatter than other Alpine areas, making it great for strolls.
How do I get to the hotel since it's in a car-free zone?
The Alpe di Siusi is a protected area. Guests generally arrive via the cable car from Siusi allo Sciliar. If you are driving, the hotel can provide a special permit to drive up during specific hours to drop off luggage, but the cable car is the most scenic and common route.
What is included in the afternoon Aperitivo?
The daily Aperitivo from 3:00 PM usually includes a selection of gourmet sandwiches, local snacks, and a menu of signature cocktails and local wines. It’s the perfect bridge between your outdoor activities and dinner.
Do I need to be an expert skier to stay here?
Not at all. While it is a ski-in/ski-out resort, the Alpe di Siusi is famous for its wide, gentle blue runs which are perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers. In summer, the hiking trails range from very easy to highly technical.
What should I pack for the wellness area?
The hotel provides luxury robes and slippers. Most of the sauna areas are ‘nude zones’ in keeping with European tradition, but the pool area and certain steam rooms are swimwear-friendly.
