How to get to Tiger Muay Thai

Flights to Bangkok and get connecting flight to Phuket. Air Asia have return flights from Bangkok from as cheap as $50 return. Taxi from airport to Tiger is about 45mins and less than $20USD.

Where to stay while training at Tiger Muay Thai

Tiger has its own accommodation which is great for convenience but if you want to stay off site there are many cheap options on the street. Tiger has accommodation for a week starting from 6500 Thai Baht or $185 (Yes a week) – nice and easy to get home after a tough workout!

The Tiger accommodation was full so I stayed 50m down the road at a sweet little place called “The One Cozy Residence”. I really loved it and it was so close to Tiger.

How much to train at Tiger Muay Thai

For what Tiger offers, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the prices. I used the All-inclusive package which gave me access to every class. This gives you the most variation and the best deal. All Inclusive for one week is only 4400 Thai Baht, or $125 USD. Compared to other gyms and what this offers, this is simply an absolute bargain. I recommend getting this plan- variation is key when you will be training so much.

Week Breakdown

Here is the breakdown of my week @ Tiger. It was a truly exhausting schedule, but totally loved every minute of it.

Day 1 – Superstar Jolen showed us around the property and we checked it all out. We signed up to our first Western Boxing class with Coach Sam. He showed us all combinations and worked us hard and helped people no matter what level they are at. It was a tough session that had lots of fitness and plenty of sweat.

Day 2 – BodyFit session  – Coach Jane did a full BodyFit session with a large crew. This class is all about using bodyweight exercises. There were so many variations, that even experienced trainers were there to get a good workout and learn new moves.

Day 3 – HardCORE, BodyFit- today we did the double workout. A 30 minute HardCORE session blasted the abs and we went back to back with another BodyFit class. As soon as we finished we went straight to the Tiger restaurant and ordered a super huge protein shake. They were so good I ended up having one everyday.

Day 4 – Body Fit/ Muay Thai – I wasn’t too sure what to expect with the Muay Thai session as I had no idea of the format and was worried about being unexperienced compared to others. However, the Beginners class is great. They really looked after everyone with one on one advice and training and really went in depth with safety. It was also very physically tough. They made sure you were worn out by the end of the 2 hour session.

Day 5 – Hard CORE, Strength and Conditioning and Western Boxing – Attempting the Triple was tough. I made sure I had protein and sleep in between sessions to allow my body to recover. Hard CORE and S & C were in the morning, so quite a few people did the double. We had good quality food from the restaurant which allowed us to recover. Make sure you try to vegetable bar! Boxing finished up the night and the body was very ready for a rest.

Day 6– We had a bit of sleep in today to allow us to recover the bodies after the last few days of training very hard. Tiger slows down a bit on the weekend which acts like a recovery block and makes sure that people don’t overtrain. We hopped on the Scooters/Motorbikes and rode around Phuket exploring all its randomness. We made our way up to the “Big Buddha” which was a steep and windy road. It was all under construction, and apparently has been for years, but still is worth a look even if only for the view.

Day 7 – Sundays at Tiger are so quiet. To give everyone a rest they do not schedule any classes so I decided to get in an extra personal fitness session in. I just worked on a little circuit focusing on areas of the fitness that were fresh or had not been used in a few days.

Day 8 – Twice a week Tiger do an outdoor session- Either running up the mountain to the “Big Buddha”, or doing a beach session. I managed to sneak in a Beach session with the crew. As i mentioned earlier, the best thing about these classes is that they are scaled for different levels of ability. So you can work as hard as you can and not feel the pressure of others.
