Marriott Cairo: Staying in a Palace by the Nile River

When we were in Egypt, we stayed at a very central location at the Marriott Cairo. Along side the Nile River, it is close to the Pyramids and the go to museums. We felt like absolute royalty staying here with all the palace like design.

Where is the Marriott Cairo Located

It is right in the heart of the Zamalek district, with awesome views of the Nile River and the city skyline. There are plenty of riverboats that are also restaurants only a few minutes walk by. It is close to many other big hotel chains and every taxi driver knows where it is. Look for the big twin towers that hover above a beautiful palace.

Things around the Marriott Cairo

It is very close to the freeway, which gives it access to everything. The Cairo Museum is a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi from the hotel. The Egyptian Museum is also close by, as is the Opera House. Cairo Tower is less than 10 minutes walk away from the Marriott. Alabaster Sphinx is just across the river too. The Great Pyramids are only a 15 minute drive away (without traffic of course!), so it’s nice and close.

The hotel used to be a Palace, hence the majestic entry and many beautiful spots within the establishment

How to get around Marriott Cairo

There are many taxis in Cairo, you will never have trouble going places. If you don’t want the challenge of haggling and stress, Marriott have taxi services all downstairs at reception. Uber also works in Cairo, definitely our winning transportation style to avoid getting scammed. Hotel transfers are 80 Egyptian Pounds (4.50$US) one way, which is not too bad.

Dining at the Marriott Cairo

I don’t think we have ever been to a hotel that has that many bars and restaurant options INSIDE the actual hotel. Seriously. Irish Bar, Steakhouse, Egyptian Nights, Italian, Classic restaurant – they have it all. If you love food, you are in for a treat staying at this Marriott property. We loved the outdoor Garden cafe. Our favorite restaurant within the property is Saraya Gallery, french cuisine in this beautiful vintage set up! Hard to not resist going to eat there to be honest!

Marriott Cairo Facilities

Other than the dozen food and bar options, there is an amazing garden to stroll through, a huge swimming pool and a gym as well. It is not the most beautiful gym we have seen, but it sure is good enough to fit in your daily fitness session. If you feel like playing tennis, a court is also available for hire. Feeling lucky? There is a casino as well!

Marriott Cairo Rooms

The rooms are quite dated. The charm was in everything other than the rooms themselves. It made me feel a bit in an old Las Vegas room than a luxurious suite in an ex-palace. Although, because everything is so exceptional, it was 100% still worth our while and we were very much satisfied with the stay and wonderful balcony view over the Nile River.
