Feeling like some Seafood in dubai? Jackpot. Catch Dubai is a Seafood restaurant from New York located in the Fairmont Dubai. The entrance is outside on the right main side of the hotel entrance facing Sheikh Zayed Road. You will take an elevator straight to the restaurant when you will enter a little “transition” area with artwork, awards and NYC memorabilia, including our favourite, the giant Manhattan map.
We insisted on a booking at 7:30 PM to be able to not have a late night, but also to have the place calm enough to do our thing before it gets busy. We sat at the semi-circular leather banquettes, where we received quickly the drinks menu. Usually we would recommend guests to go to their bar area and grab a good cocktail from their mixologists. We both went for 1 drink each, a Dirty Bastard (Irish whiskey, ginger beer, lime, spiced rum, bitters) and a Persephone (vodka, hibiscus, black tea, lime)
Catch Dubai reminds us of Fumé at Pier 7 with its dark industrial space feel. It has exposed ceilings, mock bricks with “CATCH” written in big, artwork here and there and our favourite spot, where we didn’t sit unfortunately, which is a chilled-out lounge room that had very much like a library feel. There is also a little live sushi bar.
The menu at Catch Dubai
All under award-winning Head Chef Bobby Griffing’s supervision, the menu at Catch goes from sushis, sashimis, makis, cold and hot appetizers and onto main courses of hot dishes, both fish and meat, grills and of course some sides. We didn’t really know what to order nor where to even start. We eyed at the tartare for quite a long time but ended up having some delicious Crispy shrimps, Tajin edemame and Rice cake, our least favorite. The Edemame is served on a grill sitting on a pan with few pieces of charcoal and it is so good, especially the ones that were sitting over the charcoal. Catch is a sharing concept, you don’t just order a meal for yourself. Each course is served in sequence so you can enjoy the dish, not simultaneously. For mains we started with a Spicy king crab pasta served with Squid ink pasta, Roasted tomato uni cream and spring onion, followed by a Herd roasted branzino with creamy vegetable basmati followed which completed the meal perfectly following the pasta.; at this point we were very full and a bit worried about not having space for desserts.
Desserts are big portions so order one that you can share, especially after eating and drinking that much! We had a tiramisu in a giant glass. We struggled a bit with the tiramisu cocoa powder that just hit us while we ate, which is something that never happened to us before while eating a tiramisu.
