Straits Clan and the Oxwell & Co. team has collaborated for a seven-week festive pop-up featuring their own version of British roasts combined with Singaporean goodness.
After being seated, we were immediately welcomed with a glass of water to remove our masks and asked to scan the bar code to consult the menu.
The Oxwell & Co pop up is located at the bottom level of the members only Strait Clan. The space is quite posh but welcoming with a tropical splash onto a colonial feel space from the outside and completed with flowery decoration, colourful paintings and light textures around.
After much debate as to what to try, we were recommended the Roast and Toast Set special for festive, which basically allowed us to try everything that we wanted, so it was an easy choice.
The Roast and Toast Set Menu allowed us to try and share all their recommendations plus allow us to get our personal favourites.
We started off with a welcome drink known as the Festive Toast, which is a Spiced pear, Hendrick’s gin, Prosecco, vanilla & Sichuan pepper drink. As we were enjoying it, we were served with the Lab sourdough with black garlic butter, Salt & pepper shrimp with tartare sauce and the delicious Oxwell and Clan scotch egg.
Thuymi loved the combination of butter and proceeded to eat most of it. The Scotch eggs, with the bacon wrap were amazing and we could have had a dozen of these. The Salt and Pepper shrimp was a tasty dish but too small for my liking. Thuymi on the other hand really enjoyed it as she loves little crunchy and fried food!
Our starters continued with a roasted pumpkin soup with chestnut crème fraîche, crispy sage and a Scottish smoked salmon, dill, horseradish cream, fennel salad. The soup was exceptional and we were both fighting over the bowl. The salmon was a little plain and was saved by the dill. If it was for us, for two, we probably didn’t need to have the salmon dish.
Not long after the starters were devoured, we moved on to Mains. I went straight for beef that was served with our roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, traditional gravy, arugula 200-day grass-fed roasted beef sirloin (250g), with the option to have horseradish cream + $10SGD
Thuymi went for her favourite, the Crackled roast pork belly. We were actually filling up quite fast at this point and knew we still had desserts.
Served as sides are charred Brussel sprouts cooked with maple syrup, smoked bacon, roasted heirloom baby carrots, brandy butter, sesame seeds and baked cauliflower cheese. Our favourite was the baked cauliflower because of the amount of delicious cheese on it, but to be honest, rare are the times you would love sides THAT much during a big meal, but in this set, the sides are really high quality and very tasty.
For dessert, we went for one of each with Thuymi getting the Sticky date pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice-cream, and Mitch going for the old trusty Apple crumble with chantilly cream. Needless to say, even though we were super full, we were able to devour all the desert no problems at all. The Apple Crumble was fairly large so if you are full that would be a great sharing option.
They have a great initiative with every meal purchased we will be donating a meal to someone in need this festive season through Food Bank SG. Please note all prices are subject to 10% service charge and 7% GST. All menu items are subject to changes.
