Aren’t we blessed to be in Singapore during this global pandemic? No really, we have the best food, great people and a fabulous F&B industry of talented bartenders across the island that keeps coming up with fun concepts for us to stay entertained! Joe Alessandroni, Hazel Long and Peter Chua at Junior The Pocket Bar made sure to deliver with their vibrant bartending team by teaming up with Rémy Martin for a CNY menu that revolves around cocktails and treats. Just another fun and festive way to Celebrate the Year of the Ox New Year in Singapore!
Junior The Pocket Bar will be running the Rémy Martin Pop-Up during Chinese New Year from 27 of January to 27 February. For the occasion, the little space, call it exclusive, comes to life with a brightly coloured mural wall stretching around the seating area of the space of CNY motif wallpaper. Get into the festive mood under the whimsical artwork with familiar motifs of the Ox, Rémy Martin’s signature Centaur, vineyards and Cognac barrels.
What’s on the menu? Obviously start with the thirst-quenching Rolling For Prosperity (S$25++), a drink made with pineapple, iced brown butter rum and lemon. Pretty much sipping on liquified pineapple tart mixed up with Rémy Martin VSOP! It is actually served with a flaky pineapple tart on the side.
Continue your cocktail journey with the Blooming Gratitude, a mix of The Botanist gin, jasmine, pear, Pol Roger champagne and the final touch, Cointreau.
Additional highlights from the cocktail menu include the red envelope-inspired Ang Bao Na Lai (S$25++) inviting the gifts of fortune and luck with The Botanist Dry Gin, lychee, grapefruit, lemon and rose, garnished with strawberry dust and the Heart of Gold (S$25++), a refreshing mix of Cointreau, fino sherry, dry vermouth and spiced Mandarin soda, garnished with a love letter.
Don’t just stop by Junior for a drink, enjoy the delicious menu of treats that complement the cocktails, including the rich and savoury Abacus Seeds, Asian yam gnocchi with baby scallops, shitake mushrooms, 63º egg, dried shrimp & scallop powder (S$18), classic Duck Wrappers with pan-seared duck breast accompanied by house-made plum sauce, pickled carrot and daikon (S$19) and popular Peranakkan heritage dish Pie Tee Cups with braised pork belly and curly spring onion (S$17). Finish on a sweet note with the Egg Tart with Mandarin orange curd and vanilla in vol-au-vent (S$6). My favourite? Definitely the Duck Wrappers!
For a luxurious indulgence, treat yourself to the Year of the Ox featuring two pours of Rémy Martin XO served with a braised oxtail tart.
If you plan to celebrate at home, you can also enjoy select cocktails for takeaway and delivery. Each 250ml bottle is equivalent to one and a half to two serves (S$35++ per bottle). You can have more details and place an order on their website, juniorthepocketbar.com.
