Bali has so many hotels, it is easy to get lost in the search for quality/price. Hotel Indigo Seminyak Beach in Bali is quite a new resort and is a great mix of location and luxury at a great price. Hotel Indigo is known for being a city hotel, but this one is their first resort ever and it sure doesn’t disappoint! If you are looking for a place with a beachfront, premium sunsets and nightlife, Hotel Indigo is right by the fun coast of Seminyak for you to have a complete and comfortable stay.
Where is Hotel Indigo Located
Hotel Indigo is in Seminyak, a very popular and touristy area due to its premium beach location whilst not being too long from the airport compared to Uluwatu. The neighbourhood is full of culture and has a vast array of great food choices if you feel like eating out. The hotel is a mix of unique architecture and modern design. The entrance is grand and very creative with many colourful decorations and furniture. The warm breeze strolls through as you are surrounded by an antique collection of books, artwork and bicycles when you check-in. There are counters, but when you arrive, you will get a personalized check-in ritual with welcome drinks in the beautiful open space.
How to get around from Hotel Indigo?
You are in a premium location of Seminyak, so you have many options to get around. You can hire push bikes for free (they provide water and towels), first come first served from 7 AM to 6 PM! We went for several bike trips and navigated through the windy and sometimes chaotic streets of the vibrant township. The hotel can arrange a private car service to take you around Bali to see whatever you want. Just a note, Bali is notorious for its high level of traffic, so keep that in mind when you want to get around the island.
Walking was our second favourite way to get around after biking. We love to hear the sounds, meet locals and smell (try them too!) the incredible street eateries. Hotel Indigo is located well with the walking street adjoining the back of the property. Jump over the tiny bike road and you have access to one of the best sunsets on the island and all those bars with colourful umbrellas.
Dining at Hotel Indigo
There are plenty of options here to satisfy any cravings. The Makasa is the place where the breakfast buffet and à-la-carte menu for other different times of the day. They have a great fruit & vegetables section and can make a wide selection of egg dishes. Go early, it can get quite busy and longer to get your eggs and your fresh custom smoothies! The smoothie/juice bar was our ultimate best as it had so many fruits & vegetables available to make your creative mix!
The Tree Bar is a dainty place with an open plan feature as well, such a Bali design! It is located in the heart of the property in between all bars, pools, food and eateries and is a great place to chill and people watch going in and out of the pool/beach direction. The Pottery Cafe is a great place to sit and chill for a nice warm cup of coffee. With the ceramic displays around you, they even offer ceramic making workshops from locals just to make your experience even more special. There is another bar closer to the pool which is The Cave Pool Lounge, near the infinity pool and offers some of the freshest coconuts which are great in the warm Bali sun. The Sugar Sand Beach club was not opened yet when we were there, but is right on the beach front and will look incredible once it is finished later this year. Guests will be able to have breakfast there too, overlooking Seminyak beach.
Hotel Indigo Facilities
The Sava Spa is the place to be for a bit of relaxation time. It has many different options and has both couple and single treatment rooms. It also has a relaxation lounge where you can sit for a while and drift to sleep with water trickling through. It is all very zen like. Indigo also has a 24/7 Health club that is full of quality fitness equipment and you can even book your own personal trainer if you need a little more motivation. We are gym lovers and this gym is comprehensive enough to get any type of workout on (unfortunately we were unable to snap photos as they installed more new equipment during our stay). There is a business centre and a convention room to hold meetings. Just a little hint, there are the best massage chairs hidden up there and you can use them as you wish. We literally spent 2 hours on them late night on one day with our laptops on the lap to work and enjoy a rub haha! As for pools, everyone will be happy including the little ones with a cute little area for them to enjoy water without sun over their heads. There is the larger pool and a smaller one called the secret pool, perfect for couples to relax.
Hotel Indigo Seminyak Rooms
Hotel Indigo has over 270 large rooms that have a mix of locally influenced designs. There are gardens in between buildings which gives it a tropical feel. Each room has day beds and an open shower (don’t worry no one can actually see in, it just has an open feel about it). The rooms are full of colour and come with plush bedding which makes it nearly impossible to wake up in the mornings 🙂 On top of the normal rooms, there are also 19 villas which come with their very own private swimming pool. We found rooms for just over 200$US but you may be able to match or beat it with Booking.com or Agoda.com.
Sustainability at Hotel Indigo Bali
There are several sustainability initiatives within the hotel. In Makasa they promote organic farming, animal welfare and sustainability of both land and sea environment. The property still distributes plastic bottles to guests, which is an area that nearly all hotels need to work on. They have also worked with the local Balinese in developing a sustainable model for the hotel within the community.
How was the experience?
The best features of the property are its proximity to Seminyak Beach and all the bars and beach drinking spots. We obviously recommend to try the great gastronomy at the property, but if you want something more local, you must walk around and dig for the non touristy! We particularly enjoyed the “Secret” pool, which isn’t a real secret at all, but still enjoyable and relaxing! It is however in a much quieter section of the hotel and is a great place to sit down and relax. Things that stood out to us was the massage chairs. We have been to soooo many properties, but this was the first with this feature and a great area with books, games and TVs for all to have some interior chill time. The architecture and interior design really made us enjoy the service and experience even more. A downside is that not all rooms have an ocean view (even the villas) but with the beach literally a one minute walk away from the property, it will not make a difference to your day. Although, if you were looking for a beach villa, this is not the right place to book!
