Viet Nam is fast becoming a luxury getaway, with some of the most breathtaking hotels hidden all through the land. While we had a football tournament up in Da Nang, known as one of Viet Nam’s most beautiful cities, we decided to check into the InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort. It is located about 15km north of town.
We had heard some very good reports about this place and we were looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about.
We were greeted by the most amazing entrance. When you walk into the reception, you immediately see the view of the mountain you are on. It automatically sets the tone for the hotel. You can view the whole bay, all the pools and most of the rooms that are scattered along the slope.
We always love a hotel that requires a golf buggy to take you around and this place is no exception. You need it as it is so big and hilly – walking is “impossible”.
At the InterCon Da Nang, it is a mixture of the sea, jungle and mountains. We woke up to the sounds of the waves crashing against the sea, the perfect relaxing scenario we were looking for.
This is not a resort like all others, it is known worldwide for all the accolades it has received, including Asia’s Leading Luxury Resort and Vietnam’s Leading Resort at the World Travel Award in 2015. Just recently, Business Traveller Asia Pacific awarded the InterContinental Da Nang with the ‘Best Resort Hotel in Asia-Pacific’ at the award ceremony on the 23rd September 2016.
Have a look at our pics. If you are in Vietnam, you need to be staying here!
InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort Design by Bill Bensley
This resort is made for luxury. What you are “paying” the price for is the seclusion from other hotel guests. After all, this is a hotel that can host a lot of guests, while delivery an amazing feel of luxury and privacy. It is the creation by the famed architect Bill Bensley.
InterContinental Da Nang Rooms & Layout
The room we were in has a spacious sharable bathrooms, outdoor dining balconies with couches you can relax on and a breathtaking view of the gorgeous mountains and sea. The hotel provides you with cute conical hats (traditional vietnamese hats), sandals and a beach bag. We love when resorts think of these little details.
The InterContinental Da Nang is the first and only hotel we have been so far that has a monorail to get up and down on the hill! It is named Nam Tram, where each stop is named after Heaven, Sky, Earth, and Sea, the beach level. We have been at many hotels with golf buggies to get around, but this one was a first.
Things to do at the InterContinental Da Nang
You won’t get bored as the place is so huge. We went to visit all their funky Karaoke areas and got lost many times around. If exploration of the hotel ain’t your thing, no worries, they have many other daily activities organized such as kayaking, beach volleyball and trekking trips. An Entertainment room is also available with billiards table and all. We loved the big lounging sofas to relax and read a book!
InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort Pools
Let’s be real, we love our hotels with nice pools! You have many choices and won’t be disappointed at all with the options of the Intercontinental. Let let the pictures speak for themselves.
InterContinental Da Nang Service
If you travel by plane and arrive directly from Da Nang airport, you can enjoy the guest arrival lounge at the airport before transferring to the hotel by car. We LOVED it, having some snacks, drinks and relax. We actually used the lounge to depart as well! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. English was spoken by everyone which is what any visitors would appreciate!
Dining at InterContinental Da Nang Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort
La Maison 1888, Citron, Barefoot, Buffalo Bar, Long Bar…there are plenty of choices! You will have to grab a seat at Citron’s alfresco tables shaped like upturned conical hats for a MUST Instagram shot! We went to eat at La Maison 1888, at the time featuring Michel Roux and now is featuring Pierre Gagnaire, a very very well known French chef. (Both Michelin 3-star chefs; now you know you are not kidding at La Maison 1888!!) The only con that we are not used to is that you have to pay for your morning all-you can eat buffet.
InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort Club Lounge
We have to tell you that it is worth it to book a Club Lounge extra that will give you many benefits and a little bit more of seclusion if that is what you are looking for. For more details visit their Sun Peninsula Club Lounge site.
