Without travel, locals in Singapore are enjoying spending more moments on one of their favourite pastimes: eating in unique and visiting tasty restaurants. Publico’s new weekend breakfast menu, La Mattina, offers 11 à la carte dishes with delicious dishes that are also friendly for gluten-free and vegetarian diners.
Publico is located at the Intercontinental Hotel in Robertson Quay. It is super central and only a 10-minute slow walk to the MRT, perfect location for a stroll to digest after breakfast along the water!
After the usual post-pandemic lockdown ritual of temperature taking and safe check-in, the enthusiastic staff placed us at our seats with instant glasses of water to remove our masks. It was the fastest we’ve ever had our water so far in Singapore! Within a few minutes, our coffees also had arrived. La Mattina is a brand new perspective in the good old breakfast favourites, we were excited with what we saw in the menu. After taking our order, the food also arrived quite quickly.
It was difficult to choose only a few dishes as everything sounded quite tasty! Upon recommendations from the lovely staff, we went for the:
– Crump Madame (S$20), which is two crumpets served with tomato, provolone cheese, artisan bacon, sunny side up eggs, and balsamic glaze;
– Pumpkin & Kale Frittata (S$26), which is gluten free, free-range egg frittata, pumpkin, feta, kale and sun-dried tomatoes;
– Açaí Superfood Bowl (S$16), gluten free, semi-frozen açaí berries, amaranth seeds, publico granola, gooseberry, raspberry, blueberry, cacao nibs and coconut chia parfait.
Even when the breakfast was at its peak, we never felt like there were too many people there. The service was always fast and on point. The Frittata was a unique dish we had not had in a long time. The hint of feta was not overwhelming and really complimented the rest of the dish. The Crump Madame with the cheese was a good blend and the super crispy bacon topped it off, probably our favourite of the 3 dishes. The Açaí is served not the way you would be used to, but all deconstructed, for you to mix yourself or, if you are like Thuymi, have a little taste of each ingredient, before mixing it all up! Each to their own!
For drinks, other than the usual coffees, we had to give a try to smoothies, which we chose the Sugar Daddy (S$14) (Banana, Cocoa, Chocolate Chips, Rolled Oats, Peanut Butter, Almond Milk) and the Dragon Slide (S$14) (Pink Dragon Fruit, Mango, Blueberry).
The Dragon Slide was sweet but never too much, so we finished that one first. The Sugar Daddy felt a little too similar to the Acai Bowl in terms of texture and taste, so we would probably not order them both in the same meal, but was still easy to drink.
The La Mattina breakfast is held every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. If you want to have the place more quiet, make sure you book for before 9 AM. We really enjoyed waking up earlier than we usually do on a Saturday to indulge in this breakfast offering and would really recommend it to you also! Hope for a nice sunny day and make sure you ask for a table outdoors if you want to people watch!
