Do you like to watch professional sport? May it be NHL, NFL, NBA, or other international leagues? So what ticks your clock? As for us, we always try to seize the opportunity to attend events to meet athletes and socialize with them. The sport industry has been great to thank fans by organizing social events, enabling them to meet their idols, which is a great way to give back and say thanks. This is how a fan day in the AHL looks like, as we were hosted by the Laval Rockets.
Habs fans all remember the days of the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Montreal Canadiens’ farm team that was a tad too far for any Habs fan that was interested in the youths’ growth to attend any games. The team was in another province for a start. Not like it was just in Ottawa though, it was way over 2 hours drive to get there from Montreal. Would you even go though if it was 2 hours drive? Point is, as Montreal Canadiens fan, having the farm team closer is great to be able support and follow their growth.
So it happened. Montreal Canadiens crossed a big “X” on the past and now has the Laval Rockets. A genius name, based on our almighty Maurice “Rocket” Richard. The new stadium in Laval is named the Place Bell and is filled with giant photos of the Rocket. Just the way it should, to inspire the young kids in the AHL team to work hard to reach the NHL and the Montreal Canadiens. Motivation is key and this new facility is what the team needed to inspire the new folks to work hard.
Last February 18th was the “Fans Day” and also an occasion for the Rocket’s administration to invite some partners and sponsors to come along and meet up some players. People could mingle, take photos, get their jersey autographed and all sorts. We tagged along with the sponsors team to be able to have a sneak peak at this fan appreciation day.
These events are so important for any sports organization. If you are a professional sporting team and you don’t do this, it’s bad PR. It’s important to give back to the people that attend games, buy the products of advertisers, etc. Even though it was the farm team and only AHL, the little fans were buzzing. Everyone wanted a piece of the players for photos and autographs. All these little souls, looking up to these guys and wishing to be at least their level one day; it was wonderful to witness.
Leaving you with a few pictures of that day and looking forward to our next sporting event!
