From today, May 16th 2021, Singapore’s population won’t be able to carry on the normal operations anymore, with restrictions on gatherings from 2 instead of the previous 5pax. That being the least of the worries, dining-in will once again be stopped, putting all the F&B industry in limbo. The fitness industry has seen its operation disturbed the week before with stricter measures, now to also have to virtually close completely. Working out in a gym will no longer be possible during this period.
The Singapore government has continued to tighten Covid-19 restrictions because of an increasing number of infections here.
Gyms closed
Strenuous indoor exercise classes, strenuous individual, group indoor sports and exercise activities will not be allowed during this period, which will result in the closure of the gyms and fitness centres in Singapore. Saunas and steam rooms are also closing as they require the removal of masks. Pools are to be monitored case by case up to the building/condo management.
Home visits limited to 2 per day
The cap on social gatherings will also apply to home visits, with each household only allowed 2 unique visitors per day. It is encouraged that Individuals should also continue to limit their overall number of social gatherings to not more than 2 per day.
Working from home as the default in Singapore
Workplaces are required to ask their employees to work from home as the default, which just before, offices would allow up to 50 per cent of employees at the workplace. And no social gatherings permitted at work as well.
Masks always on
Unless doing outdoor vigorous exercise, the other activities that allowed for removal of masks, like dining-in, will halt immediately. Both indoor and outdoor restaurants and bars, including hawker centres and food courts, will only be able to offer takeaway and delivery.
Other Services
Beauty services can continue to offer their services except as facials, which requires masks to be removed. Saunas as well are no longer in use.
Singing and the playing of instruments that require intentional expulsion of air like wind or brass instruments, are also not allowed during this period.
Indoor performances are still allowed but no sale of food and drinks while at the event.
