After being closed for the best part of 2020, Nutmeg & Clove are back in a brand new location and a modern Singaporean Cocktail menu. With a new look and feel, Nutmeg & Clove are here to excite with a modern approach and a local twist.
Nutmeg & Clove is located in Purvis Street, a historical area that previously was home to Chinese settlers at the turn of the 19th century. With a larger space and more light, the Purvis Street location allows for a more enjoyable drinking experience.
We have come to check out the new and improved brunch, aptly called Tingkats & Tipples. With a reputation for great cocktails (ranked #32 in Asia best 50 Bars, 2020) we are keen to taste what they have ready for us.
The Nutmeg and Clove Brunch
Every Saturday and Sunday between 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM, Nutmeg & Clove run their Tingkats & Tipples brunch. It is a combination of traditional Tingkats and Banana Leaf trays fusing both the modern and Singaporean influence.
Our Tingkats & Tipples brunch begins with checking through the menu and making the first choice, what menu will we be choosing from? We actually asked got and got a hybrid menu. So we chose a few tasting plates from each menu as we could not decide what we want.
Here are all the plates that are available to us in our buffet option. The Steak and the Pork Belly were tasty and the Cold Noodles were a unique start to the meal. It is a great fusion of east and west cuisine and is great to get a local twist on the brunch. I have never eaten Foie Gras Sandwiches before so it is a first-time taste for me. The curry (which we normally avoid due to spiciness) is made mildly and gave us a chance to enjoy the flavour without burning our mouths and is so tasty.
The desserts were very local but this is a great thing. We dont really want a heavy dessert and these light tasting dishes are a sweet and light way to finish our experience. Not to mention that they still blended well with the cocktails.
The drinks that kept coming out were on point. Starting off fresh with Daiquiris, Sangria and. Bloody Marys, we didn’t go too crazy with our ordering. All these drinks are made fresh and are great for a humid day.
As the brunch went on, we go for our more traditional favourites such as the espresso martini, Old Fashioned and Yuzu Highball and you cannot go wrong with any of these. They are made just right.
There are plenty of spaces in this larger location so it is not too busy. This allows us to have an easy conversation without shouting and order food and drinks without any hassle. The staff that prepare food and make the drinks are always on hand. They are great for a chat or to guide you through your gestational tour. There is a personal touch with Nutmeg and CLove that we do not usually enjoy at other places. The people who make the drinks are the same ones who bring them out and discuss their inspiration. Nutmeg & Clove is also close to the MRT so is really convenient to drop in and check it out.
