We all know the saying: “We eat with our eyes first.” But what happens when you take sight out of the equation? NOX, Singapore’s unique “Dine in the Dark” experience, plunges you into complete darkness for a meal that awakens your other senses. We had no idea what we were in store for as we walked in and were greeted by two cocktails there waiting for us. The whole concept of being in the pitch-black is difficult to comprehend but an exciting experience. We all waited nervously as we prepared to be taken into the darkness.
A World of Flavors, Minus the Sights
You then From the moment you step inside NOX’s chic Club Street shophouse, you’re enveloped in darkness. Friendly and patient staff, visually impaired themselves, guide you to your table. The initial disorientation quickly gives way to a heightened sense of smell. The enticing aromas of herbs and spices become the first-course preview. As you fumble your way around the table working out where everything is, the smells and touch start the heighten.
A Feast for the Senses
NOX offers a multi-course tasting menu that changes seasonally. With no visual clues, each bite becomes a guessing game. Is that a hint of citrus in the salad dressing? Is the main course a tender lamb or a juicy chicken? The surprise element adds a layer of fun and conversation to the meal. Even though I have had chicken over a thousand times, I could not even recognise it when I couldn’t see it. It is incredible how enjoyable the experience is even though we have no sight.
More Than Just Food
The darkness fosters a unique connection between diners. Conversations flow more easily, and you find yourself focusing on the company and the intriguing flavors on your plate. It’s a refreshing break from the usual distractions of phones and social media, a chance to reconnect with your taste buds and the people around you. As a couple, we could have real chats with no phones and that was a welcome change.
The Price is Just Right
Be prepared for an actual price tag that reflects the experience. The tasting menu starts at SGD$88++, which some might find steep for the portion sizes. However, the focus is on the unique experience, not just the food itself so it is entirely worth it in our opinion. They change the menu regularly so you can go there more than once!

NOX is not your everyday restaurant. It’s an adventure for the senses, a chance to appreciate the world in a completely new way. While the price point might deter some, the experience is truly one-of-a-kind. So, if you’re looking for a night to remember, gather your most adventurous friends and book a table at NOX. Just be prepared to have your taste buds surprised!
