Food Capital at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel has recently reopened its buffet under an À la carte menu format under the theme of the Buffet Riverside Barbecue. Perfect for groups of people that love different cuisines, the buffet has an extensive menu of more than 50 choices of meat, seafood, vegetables and desserts, ranging from Japanese, Western, Indian and local delicacies. You can choose to dine indoors or al fresco dining with tables outdoors facing the Singapore River. Our recommendation would be to get a table outdoors if the weather permits it to enjoy the view!
Most people attending buffets love to be able to walk around to see what’s available, to then pick and choose. Because of safety regulations, traditional buffets aren’t operating, hence the team at the Copthorne Singapore Riverfront made sure to put safety measures and transparent separators so guests can have a stroll to see the different stations available.
Warm up your appetite by walking around the food stations and show kitchens then go back to your table to send your orders via, for now, a paper system on which you check the items you desire. The team is currently improving the system to avoid paper waste and to ease the service. We attended the first night of reopening and were with the service crew even with an ordering process underworks.
As we said, the food selection at Food Capital is quite extensive. For seafood lovers, we can all agree that a buffet or a brunch isn’t one without some Seafood on Ice. The Seafood items include New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussel, Cherry Clam, Chilled Tiger Prawn, Fresh Oyster and Whole Cooked Crawfish. Note that the items are available on a rotational basis.
The star items to order are the Barbecue items, there will be free flow servings of Live Prawn Skewer, Sirloin Steak, Lamb Cutlet, Pork Belly, Chicken Drumstick, Fish Otah, Spicy Sotong and Green Mussels. The chargrilled meats are drizzled with special in-house sauces – Malabar Black Pepper Sauce, Smokey BBQ Sauce or Sambal Chilli Cincalok.
If you fancy some Western dishes, find some Penne Pasta with Lobster Bisque, Salmon with Sautéed Green and Tomato Salsa prepared sous vide. On the Japanese cuisine side, order some fresh sashimi cuts including Salmon, Tuna and Squid Abalone, Cold Soba Noodle with Quail Egg and Japanese Pickle in Yuzu Dressing. Tempura is also available, you have a choice of prawns and vegetables like sweet potato, enoki mushroom or eggplant. Other than the obvious prawn, I was quite a fan of the enoki mushroom tempura! To continue on your international tasting journey, you can find Laksa, Wok-fried Clam with Chilli Crab Sauce and Deep-fried Mantou, Tandoori Chicken with Mint Sauce, Mutton Stew with Lentils and Spices and many more dishes.
Finally, for desserts, you can find warm waffles served with Ice Cream, house-made Chilled White Fungus Soup with Red Dates, Mango Pudding with Pomelo, Rich Chocolate Fountain with strawberries, marshmallows and cookies. After so much food ordered, we barely had any space for desserts and only went for a tiny scoop of ice cream!
I would recommend coming hungry for sure as the list of options is long and you should try to at least fit in your favourites!
