Our time was so full on in Sri Lanka, that when we arrived in Kandy, all we wanted was a bit of luxury – as opposed to sleeping in the car and cheap beds that we had grown accustomed to thus far on the trip. If you are looking for some quality views when you wake up, style and affordable prices, you need to check of Theva Residency, nestled in the Hantana Mountains overlooking the famous Sri Lankan town of Kandy.
Hidden in the hills overlooking Kandy, Theva is a great getaway from the hustle, but still on 10 minutes away from the city centre. It is on top of the hill so if you planned to only walk around in Kandy, forget about it! It is about 400 LKR (Sri Lankan Rupees) – which is around $2.74 US – away from the Train station.
The bumpy ride in the tuk tuk that brought us to Theva was scenic, allowing us to get prepared for the great views we would have. Met at the door by a refreshing fresh ambarella juice, a local fruit from Sri Lanka, it is a definite must try. We were then guided to our top floor room which has a stunning view of Kandy. Theva Residency is known for its Penthouse! An open living room window in your room overlooking the mountains is majestic, but unfortunately for us, it was booked. We were in The Suite which is tucked away in top private corner of the boutique hotel. The mountain view of this room is to die for and, in addition to that the room has a jacuzzi overlooking that view!
March is a definite high season, so don’t do what we did and wait for last minute reservations. If you want something good, get it it early!
After a good quick shower, it was time to hit the pool! The infinity pool made us forget about the Sri Lankan heat and just laze the day away.
Sun therapy done, pool session done, we asked the hotel staff for activities we could squeeze in for the rest of the day. Our time in Kandy was very limited and we needed an itinerary that was quick and efficient! They arranged us a tuk tuk driver for 2000 LKR ($13.70 US) to drive us all around the place.

After the evening of walking and sightseeing, we had an amazing dinner at their restaurant, which is popular to many people, not just the hotel guests!
