Planning to go to Victoria Falls? Zambia side of Zimbabwe side? Honestly, might as well go to Zambia now whilst the currency is good, comprehensive (not inflated currencies that you will be all confused about!) and the accommodation is amazing if you decide to stay at either the AVANI Victoria Falls or The Royal Livingstone, which both will grant you unlimited access to the Victoria Falls National Park.
Helicopter ride over the Victoria Falls
Probably one of the best ways to see the Victoria Falls and understand its majestic size! With a helipad at the hotel itself, you can just jump on the helicopter and see the Victoria Falls in a heartbeat!
Microlight over the Victoria Falls
If you are looking for a thrilling activity, go on a microlight plane and fly over the Victoria Falls as well! The experience is slightly different than on a helicopter and will sure make you feel like a bird! Note that you are not allowed to carry a camera or anything to take photos as you are in the open and it is for safety reasons. There will be a camera to capture your experience on the wing of the microlight plane.
Cruise the Zambezi River to the Victoria Falls
Onboard of the African Queen River Cruiser, you can discover the wildlife around the Zambezi river, including hippopotamus and many types of beautiful birds. You will typically, in these tours, end up on Livingstone Island which is only a few metres from the edge of the Falls to enjoy drinks and a cute picnic to watch over the sunset down. We really enjoyed this experience and it was quite relaxing.
Fly fishing in the Zambezi River
The Zambezi River also offers unusual angling and flies fishing amidst the rainbows and butterflies. If you like fishing, this can be the perfect activity for you to plan!
Abseiling
Abseil off the vertical rockface: it is safe, exciting and for sure an adventure to remember. Abseiling takes place on a spectacular site above Rapid 7.
Zipline across Victoria Falls
To start off our whole day experience, we had a quick safety chat, were told what to hold and how to fly, and then we were sent straight away on a huge zipline. The zipline started in Zambia and ended up in Zimbabwe!! We went straight across the whole gorge! Out of the three experiences, it is certainly the calmest one!
The gorge swing of Victoria Falls
We were surprised by the AVANI team to a gorge swing as we thought we would only be bungee jumping. The gorge swing is an epic jump and a mad serious adrenaline thrill. After being rigged up with a safety harness, you literally step off the edge of the gorge for a three and a half-second, a 50-meter free-fall before being swung out into the middle of the gorge. If you don’t want to do it alone, you can actually do it in tandem, which Mitch & I made sure to be doing to prep ourselves to the epic bungee jump.
Bungee Jumping at Victoria Falls
Guests can also experience the Zambezi’s breath-taking scenery from a unique point of view. Bungee Jump like never before – 111 Metres of pure adrenaline rush. It is one of the highest challenges in the world. Defy the limits of the mind and test the edge of fear by leaping off the impressive Victoria Falls Bridge. Will Smith did it, so we figured why not ourselves do it too!
White Water Rafting at Victoria Falls
White Water Rafting on the Zambezi River below the Victoria Falls is the wildest in Africa. Jet boating is also an exhilarating Zambezi boat ride through rapids below number 21. Another way to navigate the rapids is aboard a tandem kayak. A safety raft accompanies the trip and carries water and juice. At the top of the gorge soft drinks and beer are available.
Canoe at Victoria Falls
Canoe trails operate above Victoria Falls and are the perfect activity for those who want to experience the tranquillity of the Zambezi River as they paddle downstream with the current in inflatable two-man canoes. The Canoe Trail passes through the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, where guests have an opportunity of viewing the endangered White Rhino, the only concentration on the Zambezi River.
A visit to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park
Within the gazetted bounds of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, on the banks of the Zambezi, Elephant back safaris are operated by Safari Par Excellence. The park is resident to wild elephant, hippo, buffalo, impala, giraffe, zebra and small cats such as civet and servile. Guests can ride up high with their guides through the beautiful riverside scenery. This is a novel experience and adventurers get the chance to interact on a personal level with these giant yet gentle creatures
Adventure sure has many forms and Zambia offers a great bunch of options for those looking for a romantic or family-friendly destination with a whole lot to do! It is hard to level everything that Zambia can offer anywhere in the world. You will have to experience it for yourself!
