If you are a Dubai resident and that you are vegan, you probably know Life N One, which now has been rebranded as SEVA. Same ownership, just some additions in the menu and a little facelift! The meaning of SEVA is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service for the betterment of the community”. It is literally a hidden little oasis in this busy town which, surprisingly, not everyone knows about but should be knowing about! The place is part shop, part cafe and part wellness centre offering yoga, meditation classes, alternative treatments like reiki, hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy. These are offered at the wellness centre area upstairs.
The mini boutique situated in the main reception area stocks a lot of wellness products and stocks activewear. At the back of the villa are the cafe and kitchen. SEVA is 100% plan-based but you must swing by even though you are not a vegan.
SEVA is also dog-friendly since there is an outside seating area in the garden which is very cute. You will be sitting with nature on rugs on the floor and cushions or on a wooden picnic bench. There is also an air-conditioned tented area.
We visited SEVA for a late lunch on a Friday. The place was popular but it never felt like it was full as the place is very spacious. The menu, gotta say, makes you quite hungry, be careful and don’t over order as portions are actually generous!
What we tried
Sharing is Caring (AED 49) – Try the Guacamole, Black Hummus Bowl and Cashew Tzatziki Bowl all at once, sooooooo worth it! They are served with veggie sticks & corn tortillas (which are delicious).
I-Am-Not-A-Cheese-Platter (AED 72) – Vegan “cheese” exists and it can be very delicious! Taste of all the plant-based cheese made in-house: 1) I-am-not-gruyere cheese 2) herb’d cheese ball 3) cream cheese, all that with GF oats bread seasonal jam, fruits and nuts. We absolutely loved it, little advice, this fills you up so consider not having too many appetizers!
Healing Macrobiotic Soup (AED 35) – We were curious about this soup so had to try it. It is very flavourful with kombu seaweed, mushroom, broccoli, carrots garnished with dried arame seaweed and sprouts.
Eggless Omelette (AED 53) – An all-time classic at Life N One. It is made using gram-flour-based omelette folded with spinach over pan-sautéed mushroom and semi-dried tomatoes, cashew cream cheese, sour cream with avocado and salsa.
Arepas (AED 52) – It is a cornbread typical dish from Venezuela, filled with South American flavours including plantain skin pulled ‘beef’, vegan mayo, mixed greens and vegan cheese. This dish really got our curiosity. Although, we thought it was VERY heavy and maybe the vegan cheese in it wasn’t necessary. The plantain skin is SUPER interesting and is a little bit like seaweed. Not everyone’s cup of tea, this dish can be a hit or miss depending on your palate.
Young, Young Wild & Pink (AED 49) – Made of alkaline water, hazelnut, pink pitaya, shilajit, rose water, banana & dates, this drink was fantastic! It is sure a combination of unusual ingredients but the taste is delicious to our liking.
Raw Matcha Donuts (AED 39) – From seeing them displayed, thought we HAD to try them. When you order this, you get two mini donuts. They are actually VERY filling but had such high expectations of them because they look so good like a lavender type taste, but obviously tasted matcha way more than expected. The donut itself was very heavy. Wouldn’t really recommend you this unless you love matcha and to be honest, it is a little bit pricey!
