As we were getting ready to go to Africa. we knew that anyone 9 months or older who travels to areas where yellow fever vaccine is recommended should be vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days before travel.
We came to the conclusion that it is almost impossible to arrange your Yellow Fever Vaccination in Ho Chi Minh City. The only place that has it doesn’t always have stock and you might be in no luck like us. Don’t waste your time researching tons of hospitals, we called all the places that we thought would likely have it and even asked in Vietnamese, no luck!
How to say Yellow Fever in Vietnamese
When asking for the vaccine, it is called “Suot vang gia”.
The International Health Quarantine Centre of HCMC: Yes offers the Yellow Fever Vaccine
From all our calls, only the International Health Quarantine Centre of HCMC has it but their stock isn’t always there. We called on April 5th and they said to call again mid-May, with no idea or any guarantee when they will they de vaccine to be available.
The International Health Quarantine Centre of HCMC, on 40 Nguyen Van Troi, was also recommended by the Health centre at the Tan Son Nhat International airport where we tried to ask for the shot on arrival to Vietnam like places like Bangkok can offer at the airport. Although, they don’t have it
Make sure you call them before to make sure that have stock to not waste your time. Please call 02838445303
Update: April 5th, from several sources of people that need the vaccine, it has been 2 months they did not have the shot available.
Yersin Hospital: No Yellow Fever Vaccine
Yersin Hospital doesn’t offer the Yellow Fever Vaccination after a call we made to verify. They recommended me this address and phone to contact to verify if they have it: Pasteur at 252 Nam Kỳ Khởi NghÄ©a street, ward 8, Dis 3, HCM city
Phone: 028 1080
FV Hospital: No Yellow Fever Vaccine
FV Hospital, one of the leading tertiary care provider in Ho Chi Minh City and doesn’t have the yellow fever vaccine
Family Medical: No Yellow Fever Vaccine
We called Family Medical, which recommended us to call the Pasteur Institute.
Pasteur Institute: No Yellow Fever Vaccine
After a call, the Pasteur Institute recommended us that ONLY the international Health Quarantine Centre of HCMC would have it.
Vinmec International General Hospital: No Yellow Fever Vaccine
As a modern hospital, decided to try our luck considering the only place that is supposed to have it didn’t have any stock.
Yellow Fever Certificate Validity
A Yellow Fever certificate is valid 10 days after vaccination. Existing and new Yellow Fever vaccination certificates are also now valid for life. The World Health Organization announced that as of 11 July 2016 that countries can no longer require the travellers to show proof of a re-vaccination/booster dose as a condition of entry in the country. You should note that this new regulation may or may not be honoured by all border authorities during the transition phase… for obvious reasons of miscommunications or… well.. you know … 😉
